In response to significant flooding on the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, Governor Mike Parson signed Executive Order 19-14 on July 18, 2019, establishing Missouri’s Flood Recovery Advisory Working Group (FRAWG). The group is a working group that provides input on the state's short-, medium- and long-term flood recovery priorities. The FRAWG identifies areas where attention is needed and provides input on priorities for allocating state funding. In addition to giving feedback on the state’s levee system, the group explores options to improve the conveyance of floodwater through Missouri's major rivers.
The FRAWG is also responsible for debriefing following a flood event. The group continues to meet when conditions warrant. The following working groups also work on flooding issues:
- Reconnecting the Missouri River Floodplain - Learn how everyone came together for this large-scale levee setback on the Missouri River
- Lower Missouri Planning Assistance to States - In November 2019, the Governors of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska expressed their commitment to work collectively on enhancing flood protection in the Lower Missouri Basin.
Current Status - Inactive
FRAWG is a standing working groups that remain inactive unless significant flooding requires the group to be activated.
