Air is all around us. It is the fundamental element that keeps us and all living things alive. Everyone in Missouri needs and deserves clean air. We know a lot about Missouri’s air, but our diverse state has air challenges and characteristics that vary from region to region, county to county and even season to season.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources works to maintain the purity of Missouri's air to protect the health and general welfare of the people. The department protects our air by issuing permits to facilities to control air pollution, monitoring air pollutants, making rules and enforcing laws to maintain air quality. Protecting and enhancing air quality is a challenging responsibility requiring participation from state and local governments, regulated facilities and the public. Missouri citizens can take simple, everyday steps to protect air quality and save money while doing it.
