Owned by utility company Evergy, the Montrose Generating Station Utility Waste Landfill is a coal combustion residuals landfill in Henry County. The Missouri Department of Natural Resource permits and regulates this site through multiple state and federal environmental regulations. The power plant has been decommissioned, but the landfill is still in operation. It receives ash from other Evergy facilities, mainly from their Hawthorn Power Plant.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is aware of community concerns regarding the Montrose Generating Station Utility Waste Landfill. We are working with local and state partners to address community concerns regarding reports of dust blowing offsite from the Montrose Generating Station Utility Waste Landfill. We are actively conducting investigations to ensure the facility meets all environmental standards.

The department created this web page to help make accessible the most current information about department activities related to the site. The department will add environmental sampling results and other information to the website as they become available.
