For more than a century, the department's Missouri Geological Survey has produced geologic maps and collected related data. The department’s Geosciences Technical Resource Assessment Tool (GeoSTRAT) provides this information in an online, electronic format. This web application makes geologic and geotechnical data readily available on mobile devices and computers, with no plug-in's needed. An internet connection and web browser are all that is required.
GeoSTRAT makes it possible for citizens, city planners, industry representatives, academia and others to access geologic and geotechnical information 24 hours a day–7 days a week. It enables users to easily visualize and explore geospatial data using an interactive map. GeoSTRAT can be used for data assessments in various disciplines, such as hazards assessment, environmental consulting and engineering, local and regional planning and insurance assessment. Data can be downloaded in formats compatible with a variety of free and commercial mapping software.
Note: Individual layer data files (e.g., Shapefile, kml) may be downloaded from the department's GIS Open Data page.
