The Missouri Department of Natural Resources approved the proposed final remedy of no further corrective action at the Unilever facility in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Unilever, formerly Chesebrough-Ponds Inc., operated a commercial manufacturing facility, located on about 75 acres at 2600 W. Truman Blvd. in Jefferson City, MO. Chesebrough began operating at the site in November 1966, formulating and packaging health and beauty products such as Vaseline Intensive Care hand lotions, Cutex nail polish removers, Q-Tips and toothpaste. The facility also packaged pre-formulated nail polish, which was brought to the facility in 55-gallon drums.
The department determined Unilever closed its regulated solid waste management units according to the approved closure plan and met the requirements of federal and state laws and regulations. The necessary steps have been taken to identify, investigate and clean up all solid waste management units and areas of concern at the facility. On May 5, 2026, following the opportunity for public review and comment, the department approved the final remedy of no further corrective action and released the facility from regulation as a former interim status hazardous waste management facility subject to the corrective action requirements of Missouri Hazardous Waste Management law and regulations and the federal Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments to RCRA.
There were no comments made on the proposed final remedy during the public comment period.
