The Harmful Algal Bloom mapping viewer identifies locations where Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) have been reportedly observed in Missouri. The map is maintained by the Missouri HAB Response Team, which is made up of team members from Missouri's Department of Natural Resources, Department of Conservation, Department of Health and Senior Services and Department of Agriculture. Submitted reports may include suspected bloom locations that are later verified as not a bloom. Updates based on investigations are noted on the map.
How to Use the Map
Colored dots on the map represent the reported bloom location. The color and symbol used are based on the current bloom status and the date since the report was last verified by staff. Please refer to the map legends for details.
When a specific dot is selected, a pop-up window with additional details is provided for that report. Updates for a location are added to this map when provided. After two weeks since the last update, the color of the location's dot symbol will fade. Please refer to the map legends for details.
Disclaimer: The data presented in the map should be used for general purposes only. The exact location, extent and toxicity of the reported bloom may not be accurate due to changing environmental conditions. Reported blooms can be localized to part of a waterbody (specific shorelines or confined coves), move with the water current or impact the entire waterbody. The data is subject to change as new information is received. If a HAB location is missing from the map, please notify the HAB Response Team through the Harmful Algal Bloom Reporting Form.
Recreational Notifications and Advisories
The HAB Response Team coordinates responses to reports with other state and local agencies. The response team may conduct follow-up field investigations or water testing to advise recommendations provided to the waterbody manager. The waterbody manager is ultimately responsible for posting and maintaining notifications.
What You Can Do
Practicing healthy water habits while outdoors is recommended even for waterbodies with no information noted on the map. If you believe you have observed an HAB, please report the algal bloom.
