Rider Trail I-70, Near Road, Air Monitoring Site
The Rider Trail site off Interstate 70 at Exit 231B, Earth City, is the second air monitoring station in the St. Louis area to provide near-road data. The site is in compliance with the one-hour NO2 standard of 100 parts per billion (ppb). The department began monitoring SO2 at the site in May 2016. Preliminary data show that the site is in compliance with the one-hour SO2 standard of 75 parts per billion (ppb). Both pollutants negatively affect respiration.
Pacific Air Monitoring Site
The Pacific air monitoring station is located west of central St. Louis. It helps to characterize the ozone concentrations in the St. Louis area and determine exposure to ozone of the population of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area and monitor attainment of the ambient air quality standards.
Maryland Heights Air Monitoring Site
The Maryland Heights air monitoring station is located northwest of central St. Louis. It helps to characterize the ozone concentrations in the St. Louis area and determine exposure to ozone of the population of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area and monitor attainment of the ambient air quality standards.
Ladue Air Monitoring Site
The Ladue air monitoring station helps the department determine public exposure to air pollutants in the suburban area. The station stands near a power substation in a suburban area. Just east to the monitor lies the inner-belt expressway Interstate 170. The highway may be the major source of air pollution since retail areas occupy a high percentage of the surrounding area.
