Streamgage - East Fork Grand River at Albany Figure 1

The East Fork Grand River streamgage at Albany is owned by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and funded in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Stage (water-surface elevation) measurements are made and recorded at 15-minute intervals and transmitted to the USGS office every hour. Stage and streamflow values are displayed in near real-time.

The East Fork Grand River rises in southern Iowa and flows south through Missouri’s Central Dissected Till Plains. It flows into the Grand River about three miles south of the streamgage.

The streamgage is located at the US Highway 136 bridge over East Fork Grand River, about 1.5 miles west of Albany in Gentry County and consists of a shelter, a data collection platform, a pressure transducer to electronically measure stage, a crest stage gage to automatically record crest height during high water events and a wire weight gage used to manually verify electronic measurements. Why is the East Fork Grand River Streamgage at Albany Important?

The streamgage provides recreational users in the area, surrounding landowners, and the public with accurate stream height data. The data collected is also valuable for understanding hydrologic conditions in Gentry County. The Water Resources Center uses discharge data from this streamgage for flood, drought and water supply studies. Gage height is affected by ice during the winter months.

This stream is a tributary to the Grand River, which is the largest tributary to the Missouri River in the northern half of the state. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources have utilized data from this streamgage for ecological studies in the region.
