JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JULY 3, 2022 – Have you ever wanted to explore the great outdoors but didn’t know where to begin? Visit Knob Noster State Park from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 16, to experience a day of cooking and outdoor adventure taught by female instructors. The event is intended to be educational, relaxing and fun. Whether you are just getting started on your outdoor adventure or consider yourself an expert, these instructors will help you gain a few new skills and improve your techniques in a supportive atmosphere.
Activities include:
- Kayaking – Learn the basics of flatwater kayaking, including equipment needed, entry and exit, strokes, safety and information about the water and wind. By the end of the class, you will feel more comfortable on the water, better understand the safety risks around you and will have had fun. Participants will have time to practice and explore.
- Archery/Atlatl – Archery is a time-honored sport that is growing in popularity. Not only is it fun, but it’s also good exercise and now you can learn how it’s done. Have you ever heard of throwing an atlatl? Participants will have the opportunity to learn and explore the technique behind this ancient hunting weapon. The course covers safety, ethics, shooting and throwing techniques, and equipment selection. Participants receive personal instruction and time to practice their new skills.
- Pie Iron Cooking – Learn pie iron cooking techniques for your next outdoor adventure. Participants will learn how to cook over a campfire and then will prepare a pie iron-style meal. Food will be provided and participants will be able to sample their dishes.
Participants must be at least 14 years old and any participant under 18 must be accompanied by a participant over 18. Participation is limited to 30 and registration is required. Cost is $5 per class and registration can be completed at icampmo.com. Once on the website, enter “WIN” in the “Search Text” box and the classes that are currently open for registration will pop up. The event will be held at the park’s WPA Picnic Shelter. The shelter is on Southeast Road 10, down the street from the visitor center and campground. A large parking area is located next to the shelter.
