JEFFERSON CITY, MO, FEB. 3, 2025 – More than 70 volunteers converged on Montauk State Park on Saturday to help Missouri State Park team members with cleanup efforts following a historic flood in November.

Volunteers from as far as St. Louis came for the day to lend a hand in getting the park ready for opening day of trout season March 1.

“Well over half of the volunteers drove more than two hours to help,” said Missouri State Parks Director Laura Hendrickson. “Some of them had never even been to the park before Saturday. It turned out to be a great day.”

While the park will look somewhat different than it has in the past due to residual sand, the team at Montauk State Park is getting ready to host guests again. The park will reopen for day-use on Feb. 24.

Montauk State Park is located at 345 State Road 6670 in Salem.
