First seminar: “African American Literature - In Their Own Words”
JEFFERSON CITY, MO, SEPT. 23, 2022 – Three “Teaching American History” seminars will be held at the Missouri State Museum in 2022 and early 2023. These free daylong seminars connect scholars with local educators on a wide array of topics.
The first seminar, “African American Literature – In Their Own Words,” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 and will explore the complexity and narrative power of African American literature. With a particular focus on women writers, it will examine what literature can teach us about America’s struggle to align its politics with its founding ideals.
All participants will receive a letter of continuing education, along with digital and paper copies of the agenda, and a document reader. Lunch will be provided by the Missouri State Museum. The program will be held at the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, 100 Jefferson St. in Jefferson City. Parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building. For more information, call 573-751-2854.
