JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 4, 2023 – Do you have an interest in arachnids or arthropods? Join park team members at Weston Bend and Lewis and Clark state parks as they teach visitors how to sniff out spiders. Guests will take a look at the unique nature of spiders and maybe even spot a few.

The events are free and open to the public, and will be canceled in the case of rain.

  • Saturday, Aug. 12 from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.: Visitors at Lewis and Clark State Park will meet in the keelboat room of the park’s office, located at 801 Lake Crest Blvd. in Rushville. Participants will walk along the Gosling Lake Trail (a flat gravel surface) to check out the spiders along the way. For more information, call 816-579-5564.
  • Sunday, Aug. 13, at 7:30 p.m.: Guests at Weston Bend State Park, located at 16600 Highway 45 North near Weston, can grab a flashlight and meet at the Paved Trail parking lot for this evening program and short night hike. For more information, contact the park office at 816-640-5443.

Bring a flashlight, bug spray and comfortable walking shoes. Participants will walk for approximately 15 minutes.
