JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 11, 2024 – Spring is on its way, and there’s a lot to do at Missouri state parks and historic sites.

  • Saturday, March 16 at 8 a.m.: Getting Ready for Spring Work Day at Crowder State Park
    Join the team at Crowder State Park at the Camp Grand River Recreation Hall for a work day to get the park ready for spring. Depending on the weather, participants will either work inside the group camp buildings, cleaning dishes, floors, tables and chairs, or work outside, removing downed trees and exotic plants, performing trail maintenance work, painting station buildings and other structures or working on additional projects throughout the park. Donuts and water will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own water and snacks. They should also bring work gloves and wear appropriate clothing and shoes.   • Sunday, March 17 at 5 p.m.: St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt at Crowder State Park
    Meet at the Shelter 3 parking lot for a St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt that involves solving clues along the way. Prizes will be awarded to the adult and child who find the most correct items as they traverse a short section of Tall Oaks Trail. The event is free and open to the public with no need to register. Participants should dress for the weather and bring water and a snack. Crowder State Park is located at 76 NW Highway 128 in Trenton.
  • Monday, March 18 at 9 a.m.: Last Day of Winter Hike at Crowder State Park
    The end of winter is near, however with spring comes more foliage along the trails and less visibility. Join the park team at the tennis court to hike 2 miles on Redbud Trail while the topography of the area is still visible. Participants should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate shoes and clothing and bring water and a snack. Crowder State Park is located at 76 NW Highway 128 in Trenton.
  • Friday, March 22 from 8-10 p.m.: Dark Sky Program at Thousand Hills State Park
    This is the first of a series of dark sky programs at Thousand Hills State Park. The park team with Truman State University faculty members will meet you at the park’s Point Shelter to explore the stars and sky. Telescopes will set up at the Point Shelter, but everyone is welcome to bring their own telescopes, chairs, blankets and binoculars. Thousand Hills State Park is located at 20431 State Highway 157 in Kirksville.
