City will evaluate drinking water system improvements

JEFFERSON CITY, MO,  JAN. 13, 2023 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $22,800 Drinking Water Engineering Report grant to the city of Iberia to evaluate the city’s drinking water system.

The department’s Drinking Water Engineering Report Grant program offers funding to small communities for engineering costs incurred during preparation of an engineering report. The city will use the grant to fund the development of a report intended to identify drinking water system improvements that will enable the system to continue to operate a water system that meets drinking water quality standards and provides reliable water services.

Water and wastewater systems are essential infrastructures that support the health and economic vitality of a community. Through the grant, the village has an opportunity to assess its system and identify improvements for capacity, efficiency and effectiveness, as well as to satisfy public health and safe drinking water regulations. This will help the community plan for future growth and development and determine what actions are needed to address its drinking water needs.

The department is committed to assisting communities with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. Through its Financial Assistance Center, the department provides funding opportunities for qualified communities with water quality, wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs. This project will be funded wholly or in part with monies received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
