JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 28, 2020 –  Spend the day outdoors and assist park team members and volunteers from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April. 9 at the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site annual Park Day. Join the national movement led by the American Battlefield Trust to preserve Civil War battlefields and historic sites.

Volunteers will meet at the visitor center and work in small groups to battle the invasive species threatening the site. Individuals, families, groups and organizations are encouraged to volunteer. Participants should bring work gloves, insect repellent and drinking water and wear closed-toe shoes.

If you are interested in learning more about invasive species prior to the Park Day, join team members for an invasive species workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 2. The workshop will begin in the visitor center and then later move outside to allow practice identifying invasive species and distinguishing them from beneficial native plants. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, bring water and wear sturdy shoes and insect repellent.

The public is strongly encouraged to follow social-distancing guidelines and be proactive in protecting themselves and others.
