JEFFERSON CITY, MO, DEC. 20, 2022 – Join team members from Missouri State Museum for a Landing after Hours program on Jan. 4, 2023. History and Art: George Caleb Bingham and Order No. 11 will analyze Bingham’s 1868 controversial painting, Order No. 11.

The Civil War has long been deemed as a conflict between the North and South, leaving out the Midwest. Perhaps no Midwesterner suffered more from this lack of understanding than painter, George Caleb Bingham. This talk helps untangle the complicated legacy of the Civil War in the Midwest. Presenter Amy Laurel Fluker is an author, historian and proud central-Missourian whose research focuses on history, memory and identity in the Midwest.  

The Missouri State Museum’s “Landing after Hours” program is held monthly on the first Wednesday at the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, 100 Jefferson St. in Jefferson City. Doors of the Lohman Building classroom open at 6:30 p.m., and the presentation begins at 7 p.m. Convenient parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building.
