Kelsey Jett selected as January 2025 Missouri Department of Natural Resources Team Member of the Month

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JAN. 31, 2025 – Kelsey Jett, a professional engineer with the Missouri Geological Survey, a division of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, has been selected as the department’s Team Member of the Month for January 2025. She was selected for her service to the department and her efforts to assist the city of Hannibal.

Jett, who works within the division’s Dam and Reservoir Safety Program, recently worked with the city of Hannibal on a construction permit application. She collaborated with the city’s engineer of record to verify that proposed changes to the project were adequate to achieve a permit. She used her own hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, and expanded her efforts to include schematics while working directly with the engineer to ensure success.

Jett has also taken it upon herself to create a series of tools to assist her colleagues and the public. She completed a spreadsheet tool that allows fellow engineering team members to appropriately account for culverts and outlets that are submerged in backwater. She also put together a web publication that educates the public about freeboard at dams. The publication is a valuable tool for consulting engineers and dam owners.

“Kelsey was nominated for her outstanding attitude, work ethic and work accomplishments,” said Ryan Stack, the chief engineer of the Dam and Reservoir Safety Program, who nominated Jett for the award. “She has also been instrumental in training our new office support staff, and she does all of these things with a smile and maintains a positive outlook.”

Jett joined the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in February 2023 and resides in Rolla.
