JEFFERSON CITY, MO, OCT. 3, 2023 – Even though the summer has ended, there’s still a lot to do at Missouri state parks and historic sites.

  • Tuesdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31: Toddler Tuesdays at Crowder State Park
    Starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays, preschool children and their guardians are invited to Toddler Tuesdays. Each week, participants will listen to a nature story, make a nature craft and participate in an activity, such as a nature walk to look at the beauty of the natural world. Meet at Camp Grand River Recreation Hall. Attend one or all the events. Crowder State Park is located at 76 NW Highway 128 in Trenton.
     
  • Friday, Oct. 6: Night Sky event: Constellation Stories at Thousand Hills State Park
    Come to Thousand Hills State Park and explore the sky. Join the park team, Truman State University faculty and Adair County Public Library representatives to look through telescopes and learn about the sky. Several telescopes will be set up, but everyone is welcome to bring their own telescopes, binoculars, chairs and blankets. The event is weather permitting. Meet at 7 p.m. at the beach parking lot at 20431 State Highway 157 in Kirksville.
     
  • Friday, Oct. 6: Fall Hike: Redbud Trail at Crowder State Park
    Join Crowder State Park team members on a guided hike, showcasing the beauty and diversity of the park. Participants should wear comfortable closed-toe walking shoes and bring water and a snack. Meet at 9 a.m. for the 2-mile hike on Redbud Trail. Participants will start at the tennis court parking lot. Crowder State Park is located at 76 NW Highway 128 in Trenton.
     
  • Saturday, Oct. 7 and Sunday, Oct. 8: Women in Nature at Crowder State Park
    Hey ladies! Have you ever wanted to explore the great outdoors, but didn’t know where to start? The Women in Nature weekend experience allows you to learn new skills, all taught by female instructors in an educational and relaxing atmosphere. Whether you are new to the outdoors or consider yourself an expert, we will help you gain a few new skills and improve your techniques in a fun and supportive environment.

    Participants must be at least 10 years old and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. There will be two activity track options when you register; please be sure to select the option you prefer. Track One consists of fishing, archery/atlatl, nature journaling and orienteering, while Track Two includes kayaking, archery/atlatl, nature journaling and orienteering. The event will be held at Camp Grand River, with cabins available or you are welcome to bring a tent to use. Registration is $40 with a maximum of 40 participants.   • Friday, Oct. 13: Fall Hike: Tall Oaks Trail at Crowder State Park
    Join Crowder State Park team members on a guided hike showcasing the park’s beauty and diversity. Participants should wear comfortable closed-toe walking shoes and bring water and a snack. Meet at 9 a.m. for the 4.2-mile hike on Tall Oaks Trail. Participants will start at the campground amphitheater. Crowder State Park is located at 76 NW Highway 128 in Trenton.
     
  • Saturday, Oct. 14: Fall Hike: Tall Oaks Trail at Crowder State Park
    If you missed Friday’s hike, you can join Crowder State Park team members on another guided hike along Tall Oaks Trail. Participants should wear comfortable closed-toe walking shoes and bring water and a snack. Meet at 9 a.m. for this 3.2-mile hike on Tall Oaks Trail. Participants will start at the Shelter 3 parking lot. Crowder State Park is located at 76 NW Highway 128 in Trenton.
