JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JAN. 30, 2025 – Missouri Department of Natural Resources Director Kurt Schaefer today announced Laura Hendrickson has accepted the role of director for the Division of State Parks. Hendrickson assumes the role effective immediately.

“Laura brings almost 30 years of Missouri state park experience to her new role,” said Schaefer. “It’s also important to note she is the first female director of Missouri’s Division of State Parks.”

“This is an incredible opportunity to lead an amazing team of professionals in preserving and interpreting Missouri’s outstanding natural landscapes and culture landmarks,” said Hendrickson. “We also work to provide exceptional recreational opportunities compatible with those resources.”

Hendrickson, currently serving as the interim division director, also served as a deputy division director since 2021. Prior to that, she was the director of the Ozarks Region for Missouri State Parks, where she managed 25 state parks and historic sites, eight concession operations and the South Construction Unit. In addition, she has 17 years of experience as a park superintendent at Prairie State Park, the Capital Complex, Pomme de Terre State Park and the South Central Management Unit.

Missouri's state park system offers 93 state parks and historic sites for everyone to enjoy.

“This is a critical position within our agency, especially as we look forward to the renewal of Missouri’s Parks, Soils and Water Sale Tax in 2026,” said Schaefer. “I’m very happy Laura has agreed to serve in her new role.”
