Deanna Boland selected as April 2023 Missouri Department of Natural Resources Team Member of the Month

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, APRIL 10, 2023 – Deanna Boland, the fiscal and legislative program specialist with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Environmental Quality, has been selected as the department’s Team Member of the Month for April 2023. Boland was selected for her service to the department and her efforts to ensure continuous operations within the division.

As part of her duties, Boland provides guidance and oversight for a variety of operational functions within the division, including human resources, budgeting, grant management and accounting. She also acts  as the division’s point of contact and coordinator for legislative fiscal note impacts.

“Deanna works tirelessly each legislative session on fiscal notes,” said Jodi Gerling, the division’s fiscal and administrative manager, who nominated Boland for the award. “She often works long days to make sure we have appropriate and accurate responses.”

When Gerling started in her position, Boland worked diligently to pass on important institutional knowledge about their unit. This included training Gerling on every aspect of the position, which Boland formerly held. Recently, when Gerling needed to be away from the office for an extended period of time, Boland stepped back into her former role to cover those responsibilities. This included overseeing the division’s fiscal and administrative functions, such as personnel actions, out-of-state travel requests, department policy reviews, fund solvency and purchasing.

“She is truly an asset, not only to the unit and division, but the department as a whole,” said Gerling. “Her years of experience and knowledge cannot be matched. She is always willing to step in and help out and does so with grace and a smile on her face each time.”

Boland joined the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in December 1984 and resides in Jefferson City.
