Release Date

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 26, 2022 – Visit Washington State Park Saturday, June 4 and celebrate National Trails Day by participating in the following fun and informative activities.

  • Senior Stroll – 2 p.m. at Thunderbird Lodge.
    Join park team members for a senior stroll. The leisurely hike will be on the base of the 1,000 Steps Trail, starting at Thunderbird Lodge. Enjoy the slow pace of this walk as guides point out the natural and cultural features of the Big River Day-Use Area. This activity is open to everyone, not just seniors. The trail has a natural surface but is mostly flat and about 0.5 mile in length.
     
  • Petroglyph Tour – 4 p.m. at Petroglyph Site.
    Park team members offer a tour of the park’s history carved in stone. Learn about the Mississippian-era carvings, the culture and community that created them, and possible interpretations of the carvings. Enjoy a short walk on a covered walkway where participants can view interpretive panels highlighting the cultural features.
     
  • Hiking Safety and Night Hike – 7 p.m. at Campground Amphitheater. 
    Participants will learn tips and tricks needed to hike safely. Following the presentation, there will be a short night hike to practice the hiking tips.
