The Rocky Creek air monitoring station lies north of the Kansas City downtown area and west of the department's Watkins Mill and Liberty monitors. The department established the station in 2002, two years after assessing its ozone network and outlining its plan to expand monitoring. This station helps characterize ozone concentrations downwind of the Kansas City area and determine ozone exposure for the Kansas City metropolitan statistical area (MSA). The station monitors attainment of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).
