The Doe Run Co. maintains two air monitoring stations in Glover. The Big Creek No. 5 air monitoring station is located south of a now-closed primary lead smelter in southeast Missouri. The Post Office No. 2 monitor is located north of the old smelter's location. The primary lead smelter shut down in 2003; however, the area still experiences sporadic lead emissions from activities to deconstruct the primary smelter.
Since the public does not have access to either station, EPA does not classify them as ambient air monitoring stations. EPA does not consider data from them when determining if the area is in compliance with the lead standard.

Lead
Since 2008, the primary and secondary ambient air standards for lead have remained at 0.15 micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m3). The primary standard reflects EPA's concern for public health, while the second standard demonstrates concern for public welfare. EPA bases the standard on the highest rolling three-month average over a period of three years and two months. A monitoring site meets the standard when the lead concentration is less than or equal to 0.15 μg/m3 averaged over three months. The standard is not met if the concentration exceeds that level once or more within a three-year period.
