This permit authorizes the land application or subsurface dispersal of various industrial wastewaters and sludges from light commercial food products and restaurant grease traps for beneficial reuse as soil conditioners or fertilizers. A separate permit is required for each department region where septage will be land applied. Visit the department’s Regional Office map to determine if more than one permit is necessary.
This permit authorizes the operation of storage structures built to hold these wastes until conditions are suitable for land application. Local conditions are not considered when developing conditions for a general permit. A facility may apply for a site-specific permit if they desire a review of site-specific conditions.
This permit does not authorize discharges to waters of the state. This permit does not cover land disturbance activities or construction of earthen basins. See the master general permit to learn more about additional exemptions and limitations not covered by this permit.
Length of Permit
The department issues this general permit for a five-year period. The effective date is June 1, 2022 and expires May 31, 2027. If a facility applies for and receives this permit on June 1, 2026, their permit will expire May 31, 2027.
