Missouri Geological Survey Director: Carey Bridges, RG
The Little Piney Creek streamgage at Newburg is owned by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and funded in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Stage (water-surface elevation) measurements are made and recorded at 15-minute intervals and transmitted to the USGS office every hour. Stage and streamflow values are displayed in near real-time.
Little Piney Creek is a stream in Phelps County, originating near the border with Texas County in the Ozark Highlands. It flows into the Gasconade River near Jerome and receives its baseflow from springs. It was named for the pine forests lining its banks.
The streamgage is located at the State Route T bridge over Little Piney Creek south of Newburg in Phelps County and consists of a shelter, a data collection platform, a rain gage, a pressure transducer to automatically record stage and a wire weight gage (Figure 5) to manually verify electronic measurements.
