JEFFERSON CITY, MO, OCT. 21, 2021 –  Staff members at Missouri State Museum invite the public to attend their virtual program about Missouri surveying presented by surveyor Matt Thomas at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3 on the Missouri State Museum Facebook page: facebook.com/MissouriStateMuseum. Thomas comes from a long line of surveyors in central Missouri.

With the purchase of the Louisiana Territory in 1803, Americans claimed federal authority of the nearly 530 million acres in March of 1804 and needed a way to claim, purchase and record property. Join interpretive staff as they take a look into how Missouri was surveyed and how the pioneering surveyors divided more than 44 million acres of the Show-Me State, along with some stories from days gone by.

The Missouri State Museum, which is part of the Missouri State Parks system, is located on the first floor of the Missouri state Capitol. For more information about the event, call the museum at 573-751-2854.
