JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 24, 2019 - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded $1.22 million in financial assistance to the Boone County Regional Sewer District to eliminate the Lee Heights and Oberlin Valley wastewater treatment facilities and transport wastewater from each site to the city of Columbia’s area-wide collection and treatment system. The project is estimated to cost $1.22 million and is expected to be completed by June 2020.
Boone County Regional Sewer District’s wastewater treatment system improvements will include adding pump stations at the Lee Heights and Oberlin Valley wastewater treatment locations and connecting to Columbia’s collection system via a force main. The project will eliminate two wastewater outfalls by transporting wastewater to a single, larger facility and improve water quality in the surrounding area.
The funding for the project consists of a $1.22 million Clean Water State Revolving Fund low-interest loan. This funding package is estimated to save the district ratepayers approximately $450,000 in interest costs over the 20-year term of the loan. The State Revolving Fund provides funding opportunities to communities with infrastructure needs for water quality, wastewater, and drinking water. The district will be responsible for funding any ineligible costs and cost overruns.
The department’s Water Protection Program is committed to working closely with public entities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects, as well as provide a financial savings. This project will be funded wholly or in part with monies received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
