JEFFERSON CITY, MO, FEB. 7, 2022 – The team at Knob Noster State Park is seeking volunteers to assist with spring migration bird surveys at Knob Noster State Park.
Bird surveys are low-impact activities that require participants to walk slowly and document seen and heard birds. Surveys use eBird for documentation. Surveying the migratory birds that utilize the state park during the spring helps assess the ecological status of the area's habitats. The data is used to create future bird checklists and recognize the importance of certain areas.
Available dates include the following Fridays this spring:
- Feb. 18, 25
- March 4, 18, 25
- April 1, 8, 29
- May 6, 13
Those who would like to participate should contact Chris Edmondson by email at chris.edmondson@dnr.mo.gov, or by phone at 660-563-2463, to sign up for this opportunity. Volunteers will meet at the Knob Noster State Park visitor center at 7:30 a.m. on the scheduled survey dates. Knob Noster State Park is located at 873 SE 10th in Knob Noster. This activity is expected to last about two hours.
Participants should dress for the weather and bring binoculars, a field guide, water, snacks, insect repellent and sunscreen. In the event of adverse birding weather, the survey will be canceled for the scheduled day.
