JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 11, 2023 – Come kick up your heels and celebrate at First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site during the return of the Historical Children’s Festival Saturday, May 20. Held in conjunction with National Kids to Parks Day, this popular festival invites children to come live and play as children did in the 1820s.
There will be interesting stories about life in St. Charles when the state’s first legislators were struggling to organize Missouri into statehood. Children can pick up a passport and journey through the 1820s while participating in hands-on activities to earn prizes.
Activities scheduled for the day:
- Writing with a quill pen.
- Candle dipping.
- Butter churning.
- Washing clothes using a washboard and tub.
- Hearth cooking demonstration.
- 1820s games and toys.
- Period skills and crafts.
- Other demonstrations.
There will also be entertainment:
- Dance Discovery.
- The Buckhannon Brothers music duo.
- Storyteller Marilyn Kinsella.
- Reenactment group, Milicia de San Carlos.
- Lewis and Clark Discovery Expedition.
