JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 1, 2019 - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $40,000 Small Community Engineering Assistance Program (SCEAP) grant to the Jefferson County Public Sewer District to evaluate the district’s wastewater system.

The department’s SCEAP grant offers funding to help small communities pay for an engineering evaluation of their wastewater treatment facility. Jefferson County will use the grant to identify wastewater system improvements needed to continue reliable service to the area, meet permit operating requirements and reduce inflow and infiltration of stormwater into sewer collection pipes. The facility plan should be complete in December 2019.

Water and wastewater systems are essential infrastructure that support a community’s health and economic vitality. Through the grant, Jefferson County Public Sewer District has an opportunity to assess its wastewater treatment facility and identify improvements for better efficiency, effectiveness and capacity, as well as to satisfy public health and water quality regulations. This will help the county plan for future growth and development, a key part of which is identifying and addressing wastewater needs.

The department is committed to working with communities to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. Our Water Protection Program’s Financial Assistance Center provides funding opportunities for communities with water quality, wastewater or drinking water infrastructure needs.
