The department will hold a public availability session about on the proposed Jefferson City Landfill expansion project. The department will explain the application review process and the approximate timeline for ruling on the permit application. This meeting is an opportunity for the public to ask questions about the proposed expansion and discuss issues. Representatives from the department's Waste Management Program, Missouri Geological Survey and Northeast Regional Office, along with representatives from Republic Services, will be available at the meeting.

Republic Services obtained preliminary site investigation approval to begin a geologic investigation for constructing a sanitary landfill at 5605 Moreau River Access Road in Jefferson City, Missouri. The proposed site location is in Cole county, approximately 6.5 miles northwest of the intersection of U.S. Highways 50 and 63. A detailed site investigation work plan is being prepared.

The department reviews all applications submitted by cities, counties and private owners to ensure that sanitary landfills are properly designed and constructed. Technical factors that protect Missouri's environment are also examined. For more information about the meeting or permitting process, please contact David Drilling of the department's Waste Management Program.
