Air monitoring is required under the federal Clean Air Act (CAA). The State of Missouri operates a network of about 50 ambient air monitoring sites. This network is used to determine whether areas in Missouri are meeting the primary National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and help develop information on air quality for the citizens of Missouri.

Code of Federal Regulations, 40 C.F.R. § 58.10 requires states to submit an annual monitoring network plan to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ensure each monitor meets federal requirements. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources produces the annual plan, which must contain specific information about each air monitoring site such as location, operating schedule, identification numbers, sampling and analysis methods. The plan must also contain any proposed network changes. Any changes to State and Local Air Monitoring Stations (SLAMS) requires EPA approval.

Listed below are the 10 most recent plans. For copies of older plans, please submit an Open Records/ Sunshine Law Request.
