MoDNR’s Division of State Parks, with the help of the state’s Information Technology Services Division, developed a suite of tools that increased efficiencies and improved communication with internal staff and the public. The team’s efforts earned a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award from Esri, a global leader in location intelligence:
- State Parks and Sites Status Map is an interactive public map that can be quickly updated by state park and historic site field staff to indicate if a park is open or closed. This information is immediately viewable by the public. The status of a park appears as either red, yellow or green to indicate closed, partially closed or open. Viewers can click on the park icon for additional information.
- Central Asset Management Program Inventory is a comprehensive, GIS-based asset management solution being developed by Missouri State Parks. This system will allow state park staff to easily manage and maintain their assets, resulting in improved operational efficiency and overall experience for visitors.
- The Hazard Tree App is a cellphone and tablet-based tree inspection and hazard assessment tool designed to capture data that aids state parks staff in identifying trees posing a safety concern and helping develop mitigation and natural resource management options.
