JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JULY 31, 2018 – The public is invited to attend Washington State Park’s Perseids Meteor Shower Showcase 7 p.m. Saturday, August 11, to 9 a.m. Sunday, August 12, at the park’s petroglyph site. This event features an overnight campout and offers participants a unique opportunity to view the famous meteor shower. The event is free but reservations are required.
Guests will check in at the petroglyph site between 7 and 9 p.m. on Saturday evening. Park staff will then present a meteor program to kick off the event, followed by viewing of the Perseids meteor shower. The meteor shower will peak before dawn on Sunday. This event is dependent on weather and other conditions and subject to change. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and apply insect repellent.
The campout and viewing is for tent (with no stakes) and "open air" camping only (no vehicles or recreational vehicles permitted). Camping will be allowed on the parking lot at the site only (no camping on the grass, adjacent glade, or petroglyphs). No individual campfires are allowed, but a community fire pit will be provided. Portable toilet facilities will be available. There is no electricity or water at the site. No generators will be allowed. Checkout is at 9 a.m. Sunday.
