JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 6, 2018 – Van Meter State Park will host an astronomy program about Mars 8:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, August 17, at the park’s Mound Field on Pinnacle Drive. Val Germann of the Central Missouri Amateur Astronomers will give a presentation about Mars, after which he will help visitors locate and observe Mars through telescopes.
According to astronomers, Mars is the closest it has been to Earth since 2003, and it will not be this close again until 2287. This provides a rare opportunity to take a close look at the Red Planet. This event will be held weather permitting and will be cancelled if the sky is overcast. This event is free and open to the public.
Van Meter State Park is located 12 miles North of Marshall on Hwy 122. For more information about the event, call the park at 660-886-7537.
