JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 13, 2018 – Van Meter State Park will host two free, family friendly programs 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the park.
Native American Games will be held at the park’s ball field where participants will learn about and play culturally important traditional games that Native Americans have used throughout history to teach children hunting skills and sacred stories and to build community.
Mammal Mayhem will be held in the park’s small shelter house where participants will learn to identify the different types of mammals that live at the park and in other state parks around Missouri. Van Meter is home to a variety of species ranging from flying squirrels to bobcats. When hiking, camping or just spending time in nature, it is common to find mammal tracks, scat, fur and other signs of mammal habitation.
