JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JAN. 28, 2025 – Don’t let the snow and cold temperatures get you down! There’s still plenty to do and see at Missouri state parks and historic sites.

  • Saturday, Feb. 1, 1-3 p.m. – Guided Bison Saunter at Prairie State Park
Winter is here, and the bison are prepared for its biting wind and cold temperatures. We will brave the conditions to see the bison in their natural habitat. Visitors should be prepared for a 2-mile saunter over uneven terrain. Because we won’t know the location of the bison until the morning of the event, we recommend bringing water, snacks, a hat and sunscreen, and wearing sturdy footwear. The weather can be unpredictable, so please prepare accordingly. Binoculars can be useful in watching the bison and other wildlife. Registration is required, and the event is limited to 30 participants. To register, call 417-843-6711. Due to the unique and rare diversity of life preserved at Prairie State Park, pets are not allowed on park trails, except for Path of the Earth People and Path of the Sky People. Bison graze freely in the park, and this regulation protects both you and your pet. Prairie State Park is located at 128 NW 150th Lane in Mindenmines.

  • Saturday, Feb. 1, 3-5 p.m. – Bald Eagle Days at Roaring River State Park
Join us Feb. 1 to learn about bald eagles and search for these magnificent birds along Roaring River. When water sources freeze in the north, bald eagles migrate south to find food and water. Stop by the CCC Lodge between 3 and5 p.m. to participate in eagle-themed crafts and activities. Spotting scopes and binoculars will be available to help you locate eagles, and warm beverages will be available for you to enjoy. You are also welcome to bring binoculars, spotting scopes and cameras. Be sure to dress for the weather and consider bringing water and snacks. For more information, call the park office at 417-847-2539. Roaring River State Park is located at 12716 Farm Road 2239 in Cassville.
