JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 24, 2018 – Professional metal detectors Chadwick and Jackalyn Oldham will present a program on responsible metal detecting 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, at the Arrow Rock State Historic Site visitors' center. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Although metal detecting is not allowed on state-owned properties in Arrow Rock, the Oldhams received special permission from the Friends of Arrow Rock and several private property owners to search for metal objects on their properties. All artifacts are turned over to the property owner.
During their lecture, the Oldhams will show photos of their favorite finds from previous surveys in Arrow Rock. Artifacts from their most recent Arrow Rock search will also be on display. After the presentation, they will lead attendees to a nearby Friends of Arrow Rock property for a hands-on demonstration.
The Oldhams remind metal detectors that all state and federal properties are off-limits and that permission should always be obtained from private property owners.
