JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 17, 2023 – Rebecca Young, the recreation section chief with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Division of State Parks, has been selected as the department’s Team Member of the Month for March 2023. Young was selected for her service to the department and her efforts to plan, assist with or work at six major events hosted by Missouri State Parks between late September and the end of October 2022.
Beginning with a Sept. 24 Women in Nature event at Thousand Hills State Park, Young also planned, assisted with or worked at the 5th annual GLAMP Pin Oak event at Lake of the Ozarks
State Park, the National Association of State Outdoor Recreation Liaison (NASORLO) conference in Excelsior Springs, a kayak instructor certification course at Current River State Park, a breakfast cookout at Mark Twain State Park, and the Campout at the People’s House event at the Missouri Governor’s Mansion.
Each of these occasions required a considerable amount of her time for planning and logistics, as well as time away from home during the events. In addition, Young was required to plan both the GLAMP Pin Oak event and NASORLO conference at the same time, which included reserving caterers, shuttling vehicles, packing equipment and supplies, contacting vendors, scheduling staff and more. During the NASORLO conference, she worked 12-hour days while also fielding phone calls and emails for the next events. Young even worked on her birthday to make sure the event at the Missouri Governor’s Mansion took place as planned.
“Rebecca’s efforts ensured that these events were successfully planned and executed at the level of excellence one expects from Missouri State Parks,” said Dawn Scott, the director of the Grants, Recreation and Interpretation Program, who nominated Young for the award. “This dedication to her responsibilities reflects her drive to always give more than 100% to everything she does so that her customers always receive the best possible service.”
Young joined the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in March 2016 and resides in Jefferson City.
