JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JULY 17, 2018 –  The public is invited to Washington State Park’s Bicycling Basics Weekend held Friday, July 27, through Sunday, July 29. This event will include a weekend of bicycling-themed events, including a Moonlight Ramble Saturday night.

The event begins at 7 p.m. Friday, July 27, with a Bicycling Basics program at the park’s campground amphitheater. During the program, park staff will present basic safety tips and tricks for the bicycling beginner.

Event activities resume at 4 p.m. Saturday, when participants can take a petroglyph and glade tour through the park’s petroglyph site, followed by a Naturalist Hour program at the campground amphitheater at 6 p.m. Starting at 8 p.m., Missouri State Parks Rangers will present a program on bicycle safety on the front lawn of Thunderbird Lodge. Participants can then join in on the Wheels and Watermelon Moonlight Ramble at
8:30 p.m. and ride their bicycles in the Big River Day Use Area to Shelter #2. There they will be treated to watermelon provided by the Friends of Washington State Park. Bicycle riding will continue along the Big River Day Use road until 10:30 p.m.

The Bicycling Basics Weekend concludes on Sunday with a Naturalist Hour program at the campground amphitheater at 9 a.m.
