Prairie State Park celebrates National Bison Day Nov. 2
JEFFERSON CITY, MO, OCT. 17, 2019 – Join Prairie State Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, to celebrate National Bison Day. We honor these magnificent animals on a day set aside to acknowledge the bison as our national mammal. This one-ton beast once roamed the plains and prairies of North America 60 million strong. Learn how Native Americans utilized the bison, discover the impacts we had on them, sample some bison chili, make bison crafts and more! Hikes are offered at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Be prepared for a 2-mile hike over uneven terrain. Bring water, snacks, a hat and sunscreen. Although wearing shorts is not recommended, dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Binoculars will be useful for looking at bison as well as other wildlife that may be out and about. Please call 417-843-6711 to register for the hike.
Prairie State Park is located at 128 NW 150th Lane, Mindenmines. Please contact Prairie State Park at 417-843-6711 for additional information.
