JEFFERSON CITY, MO, SEPT. 8, 2017 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is aware of the large quantity of spent sandblasting material being stored inside a warehouse on Zero Road in Berger, Mo. This waste material is considered hazardous because it contains amounts of certain metals, including cadmium, that exceed regulatory limits established by MoDNR and EPA. The sandblasting material is stored inside containers, inside the warehouse. The warehouse floor is elevated four feet above the surrounding area.
MoDNR staff recently visited the facility to re-assess the condition of the property and saw no indications of any release of the materials from the warehouse.
EPA Region VII initiated an enforcement action against US Technology Corporation for placing the material at the facility and directed the company to properly treat and sample the materials and dispose of them at an appropriate off-site facility. A copy of EPA's Consent Agreement and Final Order with US Technology is available online on the EPA Website.
Additional information is available on the Zero Road Facility, Berger, Mo. Fact Sheet.
