JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 17, 2019 – Missouri State Parks is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to showcase a $913,000 infrastructure project to restore the Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site. The rededication ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, at the Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site.
The iconic Union Covered Bridge was originally constructed in 1871 and facilitated transportation for 99 years. The bridge underwent a substantial restoration project over the past year. The project raised the bridge and eliminated sag and sway, replaced damaged or failed truss sections, repaired the bridge abutments, replaced the roof, restored siding, cleaned graffiti and applied a protective coating to the structure. A security system has also been installed at the bridge to deter vandalism.
The public is invited to celebrate the completion of the restoration. After the ribbon cutting, refreshments will be served.
