JEFFERSON CITY, MO, SEPT. 27, 2018 – The Missouri State Museum will present the program "Before Lewis & Clark: The Exploratory Efforts of Mackay and Evans, 1795-1797" as part of its ongoing Museum After Hours series Wednesday, Oct. 3. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the program will begin at 7 p.m. in the History Hall in the east wing of the State Capitol.
Although James Mackay and John Evans are not household names, they were some of the first explorers to lead an expedition to the upper Missouri and connect with its people. The efforts of Mackay and Evans contributed important information to the explorations that followed, including that of the widely known Lewis and Clark Expedition. Join Carrie Hammond, interpretive resource specialist at the Missouri State Museum, to learn more about these early explorers.
The Missouri State Museum’s Museum after Hours events are held the first Wednesday of each month when the museum galleries remain open from 5 to 9 p.m. Museum After Hours is for those who have wondered what it would be like to visit the museum at night or whose schedules do not allow daytime outings. In addition to the special programs, the events allow a more relaxed opportunity to view all the museum exhibits. These exhibits include both old favorites and new offerings. Entry after 5:30 p.m. is through the garage entrance on the east side of the capitol.
