JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JAN. 10, 2020 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources, in partnership with the City of Jefferson, has provided a climate-controlled portable building to serve as a temporary solution for an Amtrak waiting area near Jefferson Landing. The portable building has a sitting area for Amtrak customers, a restroom and two offices. It is handicapped-accessible with a deck and ramp. The portable building, which resides in the Office of Administration parking lot adjacent to Jefferson Landing, belongs to the Department of Natural Resources.
The waiting area is now open and available for Amtrak customers. The portable building is manned by volunteers every 30 to 45 minutes before each train arrives. The city facilitated the operational logistics with Amtrak and the Missouri Department of Transportation.
The Missouri Office of Administration, Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the City of Jefferson have temporarily closed the historic Union Hotel building, located in downtown Jefferson City, for a thorough structural assessment. The decision to close the building was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of volunteers and visitors.
