The author of a new book on Onondaga Cave will greet visitors and sign copies of the book on Saturday, May 23 at Onondaga Cave State Park near Leasburg. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the visitor center and is open to the public.
"Onondaga Cave" was written by Dan Slais, a geologist, former high school teacher at Waynesville and an adjunct professor of geology at Columbia College in Rolla. The book provides a well-rounded history of Onondaga Cave and is available for sale at the park’s gift shop.
In addition to the book signing, the event will include Joe Taylor demonstrating flint knapping and stone tool making in the visitor center’s nature room.
Slais will also be available for a book signing July 4 and Sept. 5 at Onondaga Cave State Park visitor center.
