Bird with yellow and white throat on tree limb announcing dates and sponsors for the great backyard bird count.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, FEB. 7, 2023 – Lewis and Clark State Park team members invite the public to join them at 9 a.m. Feb. 18 and 19 for the Great Backyard Bird Count.

This is a citizen science event held annually in February to collect as much data on birds as possible. How can you join in the fun? The easiest way is to join the park team on a leisurely birdwatching stroll. It may be the middle of winter, but that doesn’t stop the birds!

Participants are encouraged to dress for windy weather, bring water and also wear sturdy, comfortable shoes. Binoculars are not required, as the park has a few to loan. Participating birdwatchers will meet at the park office and then walk a flat, gravel trail.

The program is free and open to the public, and will be canceled in the event of ice or snow.
