The public is invited to First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. for "Wilderness Wife: Settler’s Fare to First Lady’s Feast". Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the program will showcase two different woman’s lives in Missouri during 1806-1826.
Guest performer Donna Ross will portray the early struggle of pioneer women as well as and the more elegant life of the first lady after statehood. Her first performance showcases the hardy farmers’ wives who brought civilization, as well as their family recipes, to the frontier. The second transports visitors forward to the world of well-educated Marguerite DeRiehle McNair, a native-born Missourian and descendant of French aristocracy who became the wife of the first governor of the state. The story of these two ladies will give guests a taste of the life abundant in the heartland.
