JEFFERSON CITY, MO, SEPT. 11, 2019 – Join representatives from the Onondaga Friends Association for a unique, guided, late night Cathedral Cave Tour from 9:30 p.m. to approximately midnight Oct. 5.
The tour departs from the woodlot in the campground. Participants should meet at the departure point no later than 9:15 p.m. On the way to the cave, participants will hike 1/3 mile up the Deer Run Trail and hear night sounds such as owls, coyote and insects.
Conditions in the cave include concrete walkways and metal handrails, cool temperature (57 degrees F) and high humidity (nearing 100%). There is no lighting on the hiking trail nor in the cave, so at least two flashlights are recommended. Participants are encouraged to dress in layers of warm clothes and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots.
These tours are fundraising events that benefit the Onondaga Friends Association and in turn, benefit Onondaga Cave State Park. Reservations are recommended and can be made at onondagafriends.org or by calling the park. Cave tour fees apply.
Onondaga Cave State Park is located 7 miles southeast of the Leasburg exit off Interstate 44 on Highway H. For more information about this event, call the park at 573-522-3760.
