JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JAN. 22, 2020 – The Missouri State Museum presents Lincoln University’s Civilian Pilot Program as part of its ongoing "Landing After Hours" series on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The event is sponsored by Missouri State Parks and will move from the Missouri State Museum in the Capitol to the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site.
At the dawn of World War II, the Civilian Aeronautics Authority invited a few historically black colleges and universities, including Lincoln University, to participate in the Civilian Pilot Training Program. The Jefferson City Airfield hosted the program and provided integrated ground classes to Lincoln University and Jefferson City Junior College students. After training, several Lincoln University alumni served at home and abroad as U.S. Army Air Corps Tuskegee Airmen. Join Michelle Brooks as she tells the story of the program and airmen.
The Missouri State Museum’s "Landing After Hours" events are held the first Wednesday of each month. Programs are held in the Lohman Building at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site. Doors to the historic site will open at 6 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. Come early and enter the doors on the track side to explore the historic site before the program. The program will be held in the first floor classroom, easily accessible from the south entrance door. Convenient parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building.
